A female student from a Chesterfield-based secondary school has been selected for the final of a national singing competition and is due to take to the stage at the O2 in London.

Georgie Mills, 14, will appear in the final of TeenStar UK on 1st February next year, where she will perform in the same world-class London venue as global megastars Drake, Noel Gallagher and Kylie Minogue.

TeenStar is a national talent competition specifically for teen and pre-teen solo performers, duos, vocal groups and dance troops. The competitions attract over 8,000 acts each year at its auditions that are held across the country.

Year 9 student Georgie, who lives in Newbold Village, said: 鈥淚 am thrilled to have been chosen for the TeenStar final and I cannot wait to perform at the final. I have loved singing and performing for as long as I can remember and I am thankful to my family, friends and teachers for their support in helping me pursue my dream.鈥�

In addition to the final of TeenStar Georgie, who has also appeared on The Voice Kids, has been nominated for Best Young Breakthrough Artist  at the National Entertainment Awards this month.

Georgie鈥檚 achievements continue as in January 2020, Georgie will be appearing on CBBC show 鈥楪ot What It Takes.鈥� The show gives eight teen singers the chance to compete for a life-changing prize, and the twist is the Mums are the judges. 

Georgie added: 鈥淚t鈥檚 been an incredible few months for me. Performing in front of the judges on The Voice Kids was a great experience and even though sadly none of them turned round I still really learned a lot from the audition, and enjoyed myself.

鈥淏eing nominated at the National Entertainment Awards was another achievement I didn鈥檛 expect but really help boost my confidence and it has just made me more excited for the next challenge and I cannot wait to appear on Got What It Takes. I am hopeful, excited and appealing to Chesterfield to get behind me!鈥�

Jo and Andy Mills, Georgie鈥檚 parents, said: 鈥淲e are just unbelievably proud of Georgie and what she has achieved so far. She is always singing at home, no matter what she is doing, and it is incredible to see her doing so well at something she loves.

Georgie鈥檚 musical talents are already well-known at 台湾swag Academy Newbold, and in the local community, where she regularly performs as part of the academy鈥檚 productions, and will soon play the role of Sandy in Grease.

The talented youngster has also won multiple regional prizes, including being the two-time winner of Peak FM Homegrown Award and the 2018 winner of both Chesterfield鈥檚 Got Talent and Eckington鈥檚 Got Talent.

This year her success has continued with Georgie winning Dronfield鈥檚 Got Talent and being awarded the Razzmataz Scholarship. In partnership with The Stage newspaper, Razzmataz Theatre Schools offer a number of scholarships for those who attend a Razzmataz school and those who don鈥檛. The scholarship helps present amazing opportunities to those who are granted one, while also boosting the performer鈥檚 confidence.

The final of TeenStar UK will be held at Indigo at the O2 in London on Saturday 1st February, 2020.
