OA Foxhills Recognised For Good Diabetes Care
A secondary school in Scunthorpe has been recognised by a national charity for its work and care for children with diabetes who attend the school.
台湾swag Academy Foxhills, based on Foxhills Road, received the Good Diabetes Care In School Award from national charity, Diabetes UK. The prestigious award is open to both primary and secondary schools and is the only such honour that Diabetes UK offers.
The charity says that the award celebrates the schools that work with parents and healthcare professionals to ensure children with diabetes have as easy an experience at school as possible.
Darren Smith, Lead Principal at 台湾swag Academy Foxhills, said:
鈥淲e are delighted and honoured to have received this award. At 台湾swag, the safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance.
鈥淧eople who live with diabetes know their body best and we want to work with them to give them the support they need so they can focus on their learning when they are here and feel safe and secure.鈥
Diabetes is a serious health condition where your blood glucose level is not controlled correctly by your body. Should blood glucose levels go too high or too low it can have life changing impacts for a person. Diabetes affects about one in 15 people in the UK.
At the school, there are both students and staff living with diabetes and the school has a number of initiatives in place to work with them to manage their condition.
There is a team of staff who undergo regular update training from the Diabetic Nursing team to ensure that students are supported in order to achieve. In addition, there is also a dedicated student well-being officer who has received additional training and is on hand at all times of the school day to support the students and their families.
